Packing is something I like to say I am pretty good at after all of the traveling I have done.

For this post I want to go over some of the ways that I make packing easier for myself and hopefully these things can help you guys out!

1. Packing list

Take time to write everything down that you want to take. For me I make mine super detailed and categorized to make sure everything makes it on the list and does not get skipped over when packing.

I have a main list which is a google spread sheet that is categorized by 4 different sections

  • Toiletries

  • Accessories

  • Utility

  • stationary

Clothes are categorized in a separate spread sheet all their own, because that is the most extensive section and the one the varies the most between trips.

This section also includes undergarments and things of that nature.

I also suggest solely following the list, do not add last minute additions because if it was not on your mind when you were making your list, it most likely does not need to go with you.

Another tip for your packing list is to separate items that are going in different bags whether that be by a symbol next to the item or a separate section on the list in general.

I typically print off a copy of the specific packing list for the trip I am going on, so that I can check items off as they get packed up.

2. Plan Your Outfits

Depending on how long the trip you are taking it, varies the amount of clothes you need to take.

It was harder to plan outfits for both of my trips to South Korea because they were both over 6 weeks long. For those trips I took pieces that were good layering pieces and went with numerous things I took.

For a shorter trip though it easier to plan out each outfit. I still suggest taking pieces that work well together.

For me as I am writing my packing list I plan out each outfit and take a picture of the planned outfits so that I know exactly how each clothing item I am packing will be utilized.

This goes with shoes as well, do not take a different pair of shoes for each separate outfit but take a few shoes that will go with numerous outfits.

3. Stay Organized

Packing cubes have been my savior when it comes to keeping everything categorized and neatly packed away. I try to have specific cubes and pouches for each type of clothing and other items.

My toiletries are separated by skin care, makeup, and then hair and extras. While my clothes are separated my bottoms and tops. Everything has its place and everything goes there.

I lay everything on my packing list out next to my suitcase. Then

proceed to pack the cubes and pouches before packing up everything into my suitcase.

This allows me to easily check off my lists as I go and to get a clear image of everything before I place it in my suitcase.

It also helps if you have preassigned bags for different items. I have a particular pouch that always has skin care while another always has a pair of shoes.

There are particular items that used to always cause me problems when packing because I did not know how to handle them. Cords were always a struggle, now I have a cord storage pouch. They stay organized and out of my way.

My thing with packing is that if you take some extra time before hand the whole process is a lot smoother.

I hope these few steps in the process help you guys with your packing.

These were not per say packing tips but some simple ideas that help the packing process.

A copy of my packing lists are linked above, so feel free to check them out and use!
