Expanding My Horizons

I have always loved learning and after having been out of school for a while, I decided that I wanted to continue to learn about different topics. I wanted to grow and expand my knowledge of the world and its histories. So I created a list on Notion of different varying topics that I found interesting and explore.

Below is a section of the much longer list that I started of random things I’ve heard about throughout my life that I found interesting enough to research on the internet. It doesn’t have to be massive amounts of research. I do try to stick to the internet and can use any website except Wikipedia.

I will start by looking at some quick Google resources and then expanding from there. I will usually work with something for 30 min and if it really grabs me I will spend more time on it. I try to look at a new topic for that time limit and then check back in with the last one I did, to see if there are any holes I missed or have an interest in expanding it further. This is to just keep me engaged and learning even outside of school.
I started off with some easy topics that I had grown up hearing about and had at least some type of knowledge about the. These also were very easy to explore on the internet.
My first one was the Titanic, as everyone knows about this tragic event and I had read numerous books about it as a child. However I did not remember a lot of facts from my childhood reading. When making notes I do not make super detailed ones for everything and I do not stress about grammar, I just am brain dumping different facts.

As the list continues to grow I do not delete the ones I have already completed exploring as I want to have access to these notes as a refresher at any point that I want to look back at it.
I have continued adding items onto the list over the years and it is a cool experience to look back and see what topics I found interesting a year ago, to what I find interesting now.
Some of my early topics included such things as Ellis Island, Genghis Khan and The Black Dahlia. All very different topics from one another but those were the topics that interested me over a year ago where as now I have similar topics but also very different ones. I still love history so am looking at topics such as Chernobyl and the Wall Street Bombing while the other topics include the regenerative agriculture movement and Iceland's Renewable Energy.
I wanted to share this idea and this list with you to encourage you to keep learning and expanding your knowledge. I also want to open up the conversation on other topics you found interesting and researched on your own! I would love to share about what we are all learning about!
