In a tough time for the world...COVID-19

ree

The world seems to be ablaze right now. Everything is halted and it seems as though the world is closed. Schools, Offices, Stores, Churches and more are completely shut down or working from home. This is however needed right now in order to protect against the spread of the Coronavirus.

everyone

While this a really dark time for everyone (some more so than others). My family is blessed to have shelter and food, while others do not. However, my mom is a high risk due to an autoimmune disease, and we are all out of jobs for now. So none of us are leaving the house now... which means 4 people in one trying to stay sane.

Our family is trying to keep as normal as possible, we are trying to turn this rough time into happy memories together. There are small things that everyone can do not matter the ages of the people in your family.

Family Picnic

ree

We planned a picnic for lunch one day to get us outside and get that vitamin D. We set up a blanket and made sandwiches to sit out and enjoy the breeze. Turn on some music, take a book out and enjoy time together.

If you have younger children or those that prefer sports kicking around a soccer ball is a great addition to the picnic time outside.

Scavenger hunt

My mom decided to find a scavenger hunt for a walk around the neighborhood, so one night after dinner we headed out to see who could find the most items on the list. It's something small but it gets the whole family involved and it keeps you outside for a little bit.

Online Museum Tours

All the girls in our house enjoy art and history, so we have been using the opportunity with different museums having online tours, and visiting a different one each week. It's been nice and breaks up the monotony of working on classes and we are getting to learn something new at the same time!

Game Night!

This is a good idea for family time any time but right now its even better, it brings everyone together and can create some good competition!

This can be board games, cards, or video games whatever works for your family!

Give them Sugar!

ree

This probably sounds scary if you have younger kids, but if done in moderation it is a great way to spend time together. Our family has done indoor s'mores on our s'mores maker (which obviously not everyone has), baked cookies, and my parents even bought movie candy while at the store and we had a family movie night with popcorn and candy.

Small things that make everyone gather together and laugh together.

A Family Special

ree

By this I mean doing something that is unique or special to your family particularly. I obviously cannot tell you what that is for you, but I can tell you what our family did.

My younger sister's prom was cancelled as I am sure many others were, she was quite disappointed since this would be her first prom. So my parents decided to throw our own prom. We all dressed up and had Jacklyn put on her prom dress! Our neighbor came and took pictures of her and us outside in our yard (Social Distancing still), after pictures we had a semi-formal dinner. It was in our dinning room on our china plates, yet it was Jacklyn's favorite food so, it was Chicken tenders and Mac and cheese but you know its the thought that counts!!

I hope what my family is doing can bring joy to others by seeing others smile! I also hope this brings you guys some inspiration on what you can do in order to create happy memories for those of you who are stuck in your house!
